Lavona J. Jankovsky
1927-2021
Lavona Jean Peterson was born March 22,1927 in Casper, Wyoming to Harry and Aida Peterson. She was raised in Douglas, Wyoming along with three brothers. Following high school she moved to Denver to attend Colorado Women’s College and later worked at the Rocky Mountain News. During this time, she met her husband, Millard Wesley “Wes” Jankovsky. They were married September 7, 1951.
Lavona and Wes moved to Broomfield in 1957 to raise their family. She worked at the old Broomfield Drug Store and later was a long-time employee at Sill Terhar Motors until their retirement in 1985 to Battlement Mesa, Colorado. Wes predeceased her in 2011 after nearly 60 years of marriage. Lavona continued living in her home until her peaceful passing on March 30, 2021 one week after her 94th birthday.
Lavona loved family, was an intelligent, feisty lady with a good sense of humor and an affinity for crossword puzzles and analysis of sports-especially the Rockies and Broncos.
She is survived by her four children Debra Krause, Michael (Vicki), Melody Smith (John) and Kevin, grandchildren Nicole, Brian, Michele, Sarah, Jennifer, Emily, Molly, Stephanie, Casey and ten great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held on April 12, 2021 at Battlement Mesa Cemetery.
