Obituary for Mary H Mahaney

Our dear loved one, Mary H. Mahaney, 86, of Parachute, surrounded by her family, peacefully entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior on February 19, 2022. She was known as wife, mom, grandma, grams, granny, GG and sis to her family. She endured many health issues and injuries over the last 7 years. She ran the race and she fought the fight and has earned her wings.

Mary was born to William (Bill) Arnold and Margaret Garcia Arnold on September 15, 1935 in Edwards, CO. She was the eldest and the only daughter of 7 children (5 of whom were Bill and Margaret’s together). Her early childhood was spent in Rifle, CO, Salt Lake City, UT and Helper, UT. She returned to Salt Lake City as a young adult where she attended business college. In 1964, she and her 3 daughters returned to Rifle where they joined Kenny Mahaney. Mary bartended for a short time until the family moved to Grand Valley (Parachute) in 1972 where they resided on the Koch Ranch for 9 years. Kenny and Mary then settled on Morrisania Mesa where they have since resided. Mary did secretarial work for Bob Risley Construction until she began working at Grand Valley High School where she worked, for 18 years, in the kitchen and later as an ESL instructor. She loved all of “her” students at GVHS, many of which called her grandma. She was also able to keep all of her 5 biological grandchildren in line as she worked through all of their high school years. Mary received Jesus as her Lord and Savior on September 29, 1979 and has lived for God ever since. She attended Lighthouse Assembly of God where she also worked as a Sunday School secretary and sang on the worship team. In addition, she did secretarial work for the Morrisania Water Company for many years.
Mary loved to spend time with her family more than anything and especially loved the annual family reunions. She loved to; travel with family, play horse shoes, bowl, do puzzles, cook her famous chile verde, and play an occasional slot machine. Mary enjoyed dancing as well and she and Kenny could cut a rug. She also found much joy in her dogs (Pepe, Bonnie, and Molly) and her cat (Barney).

Mary joins her parents Bill and Margaret and brothers Tim, Ron, Tito, Pete, and Gene in heaven. She is survived by her husband Kenny, her daughters Connie (Bert) Gonzales, Debbie (Gary) Mahaffey, and Terry Mahaney; Grandchildren Misty Gonzales, Stormy Gonzales, Sunny (Jarrod) Stambaugh, Stacy (Justin) Wanca, Justin (Tara) Mahaffey; 10 Great Grandchildren; 2 Great Great Grandchildren; Brother Mike Montoya, and many sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

We are going to miss her so very much! She has joined that great cloud of witnesses and is cheering us all on in hopes that we will accept Jesus into our hearts and join her when our graduation days arrive. She is dancing with the Angels.

A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held at 11:00am on March 5, 2022 at Jubilee Family Church 483 30 Road in Grand Junction, CO. Please also join us for a reception and fellowship following the service.
