Shannon Susan Duffy was born on April 4, 1979 and made her final journey on July 29, 2014. Shannon had a beautiful spirit and was loved by everyone she touched with her kind heart, compassion and infectious smile. She led an extraordinary life with her adventurous spirit, drive to be the very best she could be and passion in everything she did. She dreamed big and loved to travel, especially with her mother Delores and was a very gifted athlete competing in a number of sports since she was a little girl. Shannon was a nationally ranked junior tennis player attending the Palmer Tennis Academy in Tampa and later earning a scholarship to Northwestern University where she graduated from The Medill School of Journalism and was team captain and All Big Ten for the Women’s Varsity Tennis Team. Always wanting to help those in need, Shannon became a Peace Corps Volunteer after graduation, serving in Monteagudo, Bolivia with a concentration in health, nutrition and sanitation. As an expression of gratitude, her village gave her a puppy she named Emma and the two had remained inseparable ever since. She later graduated from law school at the University of Denver planning to work in International Children’s Rights. Most recently she was a team leader at Delta Airlines in Denver.
Shannon is survived by her parents Tom and Delores Duffy, brothers Bob, Jeff and Rodney, sisters-in-law Tatiana and Dana, nephews that she absolutely adored, Max, Evan and Bowen and Kevin Albien and Emma, who loved her unconditionally along with many other beloved family and friends. If you wish to honor Shannon’s memory, donations can be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation of Colorado Inc. at www.coloradogives.org/shannonduffy. Shannon would be honored and thrilled to know that she would be able to help make special children’s dreams come true. The Rifle Funeral Home also has a Book of Memories page for Shannon at firstname.lastname@example.org. Shannon was an absolute treasure and will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
